1Waking up

The very first moment of each person's day is the moment between sleep and wakefulness. For others it is earlier, for others later. Others are able to wake up without an alarm clock, while others need several or even specially advanced ones. In my opinion, it is important to start the very first moment of the day with the intention of slowly preparing oneself for a new day and to be able to direct the rest of the day in a similar inertial movement.

Everyone has their own, but for the waking up ritual to succeed, I need to go to bed in time, put a glass of water by the bed, which will quench the thirst in the morning, open the blinds after waking up and ventilate the room to let in both morning light and fresh air. All of these things together give me a signal that it is time to switch from sleep to wakefulness. A good trick is to change the alarm signal from time to time so as not to get into the routine - a good option is to use the radio as an alarm clock!

2Morning exercises

After spending 8 hours almost stationary, it is important to move. Perhaps morning exercise is the key for energy and good health! Exercises after waking up undoubtedly help to wake up, gain positive energy for the whole day and strengthen the body. It should be a daily procedure for everyone, both adults and children. This is especially important in these times when working from home is everyday for a lot of people you can't move even indirectly - by climbing stairs or walking to your day’s tasks. It is important to warm up the joints and move the muscles. Here are a few short and effective exercises:

3Coffee

For the majority of the public, coffee is the first delicious alarm clock in the morning. Some drink black, others with milk or sugar - how many people, so many recipes. The main reason for drinking coffee, of course, is the chemical formula C8H10N4O2, more commonly known as caffeine, which is a stimulant, the main mechanism of action of which is blocking the action of adenosine (which causes drowsiness).

Many are able to reach their peak of productivity faster or improve their mood with the help of this aromatic drink. For me, it's more like a ritual every morning, when I can stop for a while and brew this aromatic drink through a filter. It's like a good stopping point between waking up in the morning and starting your day.

4Bicycle

When I have woken up and done my morning routine, it’s time to go to university. In my opinion, a bicycle in Riga is a basic necessity. I definitely travel with it the most. Its pros outweigh other vehicles so much that it doesn’t make sense to even choose other vehicles. I am lucky that the path from home to university is almost 100% a bike path so I don't have to worry about angry morning drivers or unpredictable pedestrians.

After riding the bike, I feel my head is well ventilated. It is also extremely healthy to move your body instead of standing on a crowded public transport. I also do not have to face problems when the public transport comes later than expected and the lecture has started without my presence. Even without waiting for transport, it is much faster to get from pound A to B by bike.

5Public transport

Although the bicycle is such a unique form of transport, it is sometimes replaced by public transport of Riga. It is certainly neither the fastest nor the most convenient, but it fulfills its function. I am also lucky to live near the tram tracks of the 1st tram, which can take me almost to the building of the Faculty of Computer Science.

It is also worth mentioning that the public transport e-ticket is especially beneficial for students, because the trip costs only 30 cents or 16 Eur per month. However, when the weather is not ideal, you have to switch to this mode of transport. It is also useful, on hotter days, getting to your destination is as difficult as it is in rainy weather.

6Lunch break

This could be my favorite part of my daily routine. To continue the daily routine, you definitely need to replenish your energy reserves with lunch. The composition of the meal is very variable - depending on the place, time until the next lecture, the size of breakfast. During distance learning, it consists of dinner cooked the day before. During face-to-face lectures, I usually go to the Daily Lunch Restaurant. Although I am not a vegetarian myself, the vegetarian lunch offer goes best to my heart - I recommend everyone to try it!

Sometimes snacking prevails and something from the vending machines is eaten at lunch. If remote lectures take place at the workplace, then I try to convince my colleagues about sharing food delivery services.

7Wind off walk

Once the university work is done it is necessary to be able to disconnect thoughts from work and study. The best way for me is to take a walk. This process helps me to absorb all the information gained during the day and prepare for evening plans. I do this with either background noise from the environment or my favorite music on the headphones. There are many beautiful parks around the computer science faculty, but they are very small in size and usually crowded with tourists or outdoor activities.

A good walk can also come on the way home. My favorite park in Riga is Ziedondarzs, because although it is not so big, it is well closed from the streets. It is very diverse - you can play basketball, take your dog to the dog playground, do workout on the bars. Gardeners have taken their time to make sure the park always looks very beautiful and tidy, but at the same time unadulterated. It's always a great place to spend your time!
